Ingredients

  • 800g beef sirloin or ribeye, thinly sliced
  • 6 tbsp soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, minced
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 1 tbsp rice wine or mirin
  • to taste black pepper

Instructions

    Combine soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, rice wine, and black pepper in a bowl to create the marinade.

    Place the thinly sliced beef in a large dish or zip-lock bag and pour the marinade over it, ensuring all pieces are well coated.

    Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to develop.

    Heat a large skillet or grill to medium-high heat and lightly oil the surface.

    Remove beef from the marinade and cook in batches for 2-3 minutes per side until caramelized and cooked through.

    Transfer cooked beef to a serving plate and garnish with green onions and sesame seeds.

    Serve immediately with steamed white rice and your choice of banchan (side dishes) such as pickled vegetables or fresh lettuce wraps.
