French Apple and Cinnamon Clafoutis

🟡 Medium

Ingredients

  • 3 medium apples, peeled and sliced
  • 3 eggs
  • 75 grams all-purpose flour
  • 100 milliliters whole milk
  • 50 grams sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • pinch salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter, for greasing
  • 1 tablespoon powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. 1
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Butter a 9-inch round baking dish or cast iron skillet.
  2. 2
Arrange sliced apples evenly in the prepared dish, sprinkling half of the cinnamon between layers.
  3. 3
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs and sugar until pale and fluffy, about 2 minutes.
  4. 4
Add vanilla extract to the egg mixture and whisk to combine.
  5. 5
In a separate bowl, sift together flour, remaining cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  6. 6
Gently fold dry ingredients into egg mixture, then gradually whisk in milk until smooth and lump-free.
  7. 7
Pour batter over the apples, ensuring even coverage.
  8. 8
Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. 9
Remove from oven and let cool for 5 minutes. Dust generously with powdered sugar before serving.
