Cháo Gà – Vietnamese Chicken Rice Porridge

Ingredients

  • 1 cup jasmine rice
  • 300g chicken breast
  • 1 liter chicken broth
  • 3 slices fresh ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 stalks green onions
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • fresh cilantro for garnish
  • crispy fried shallots for topping

Instructions

    Rinse jasmine rice thoroughly until water runs clear.

    Bring chicken broth to a boil in a large pot and add ginger slices and minced garlic.

    Add chicken breast and simmer for 15 minutes until cooked through, then remove and shred.

    Add rinsed rice to the broth and stir occasionally to prevent sticking.

    Simmer for 30-35 minutes, stirring frequently, until rice breaks down and porridge becomes creamy.

    Return shredded chicken to the pot and season with fish sauce, salt, and pepper.

    Simmer for 5 more minutes until flavors blend.
